I recently went back to Clancy's for dinner with my husband and kids. We haven't been for years because often the service can be iffy. But I heard that the have a new gluten free menu. It's a Spring weekend on Cape Cod so of course there was a wait. We were greeted by a couple of less than cheery hostesses that seemed pained to smile, mumbled the wait time and scribbled our names. Almost made a run for the door, but we stayed. Wait time was what they predicted. We were seated at a lovely high top table in the center of restaurant and we lucky to have a seasoned, experienced server who was excellent! They do have a gluten free menu now which is fantastic. I also can't eat dairy or soy, which was noted in the computer when I asked for the gluten free menu (awesome!) and they happily tweeked the menu for me. I had and amazing rare piece of tuna. All of our meals were great. Hopefully, they'll find hostesses who set the tone better and keep the great pace going with service throughout the summer!

We have given the new owners so many chances, but we have officially given up. For years, as we came over the bridge, the foremost thought in our minds was getting to Clancy's. We would even do a 'Clancy's walk' in the parking lot to get ahead of other diners. No more. We never looked at the menu, we ordered the same thing every time. The waitresses, that we knew by name, would comment on how much we could eat. We brought every friend that visited to Clancy's. No more. It's awful. The buffalo tenders are bitter and dry. The potato skins are undercooked and greasy. The onion soup is flavorless broth with flavorless cheese. I won't go on. It's awful.

We are there tonight. They must have written the positive reviews themselves as the marls we had were at best below average meals. Service was average but nothing special. The prices were high for what they served. I would say avoid this one!!

Excellent food - large portions - great service! If you're in the area, you should definitely give it a try.

I really think all the bad reviews were people who didn't have their asses kissed or were fired former employees because I can't find one fault in anything. Incredible food, service was better than most and the drinks rock. Locals go here... Not loser wannabes who give sad stories of not being treated like a Kennedy...get over yourself! Clancy's rocks!

I am sorry to do this, but I think other people should know. I also apologize to yelp for not reading the horrible reviews first as we experienced the same issues. Here is the story: We are long time residents of the town of Dennis. We have seen hundreds of businesses on the Cape come and go. Some good and some bad, but I just don't understand Clancy's. We have been going there for years, both in season (long wait times) and off season. A few years back it was fabulous, then the original owner died and the place turned horrible. So we stopped going. Clancy's seemed to survive without me, my family and my friends, so it was not an issue. However last Monday night (Labor Day) my sisters and I along with some dear neighbors decided to go to Clancy's for an "end of summer" dinner. First my sister called to see if we could make a reservation and was told "We do not take reservations) Ok we get that (not really) so we went at 6 pm. When we got, there the place was virtually empty. There was one person at the bar, a few on the patio and maybe 10 in the restaurant. As our two friends were just pulling up we were told we could not be seated for a drink until all of us arrived. Why I don't know. There were 5 hostesses standing around and no one seemed to take any interest in our presence. But a minute later, when our two friends arrived, one hostess (I THINK) begrudgingly walked us toward a table. I guessed we were to follow. The restaurant was empty yet we were ushered to a table by the front door. When we asked to be seated at a different table for a better view we were told that it couldn't happen because all the tables that were set were reserved (no reservations)?? Ok this is getting crazy. Then one of my sisters was very upset and spoke to one of the rude and disinterested hostesses and the situation instantly escalated. I guess at Clancy's the customer has NO RIGHTS AT ALL. The woman actually took the stern position that she had the right to argue and when my sister asked "why the attitude" she was rudely met with "I don't have an attitude", Really? It was then that we decided that we did not want our food to be tampered with, our service to be deliberately horrible and our drinks small and tasteless, so we left. Never to return again!!!! Later we read theYELP reviews and saw that others had the exact same complaints. Maybe the owner should read his own reviews and apologize to all that he has offended. Think of all the people who didn't say anything! A recent govt sponsored TARP study on consumer satisfaction states that "a happy customer will tell 5 people but and unhappy one will tell 20". I can assure you that my family and friends will exceed that 20 this month alone.

Food was good, ambience is nice. However we came late for dinner. The waitress seemed unfriendly as if she didn't like her job, must be because she was tired. Another employee was vacuuming near our table which felt uncomfortable when eating. There were other guests at their tables as well.

Worst rip off on the cape, ordered a steak tip salad, it was $25.50, with 3 tiny steak tips. I did take out so called and complained and they did not care at all. They said "it is written on the menu so we can't help." Also the salad was "sour" tasting...never eat here, feel like I got robbed...

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Hubby and I has always wanted to try Clancy's so we popped in one night. The hostess asked if we preferred inside or outside seating, we responded inside. She proceeded to take us to the sun room area of the restaurant in which all the windows and doors are wide open. It was a chilly night, I asked if we could move inside, nope. We ordered our dinners, Fish & Chips, hubby order his beer. He was a tad shocked when his tap beer was served in a plastic cup. Our meals arrived on paper plates and plastic utensils. We asked why the paper, dishwasher broken ? No, we serve all meals this way. Wow, that's kinda tacky. Fish & Chils were yummy. The waitresses either didn't speak English well or just didn't want to be there. We like others will not be back. We are not fired employees Bob, but frequent flyers to the Cape. Please don't review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you're connected in any way to the owner or employees.

I can honestly say that I was blown away at how incredible the food was. Best gumbo I've ever had, with lobster on top, and beautifully garnished. I didnt pay attention to what my wife and son ordered but we all ate every last bite. I'm willing to make the 2 hour drive just to eat there again. No lie.

Beautiful view on the back porch. Lobster roll was huge and delicious as was the Guinness fish and chips. We will be back!

Went here tonight to celebrate a win for our son's Cape Cod baseball team - came on a recommendation . Beautiful setting overlooking the water -outside seating available although we ate inside . New England chowder was the perfect consistency -not too thick or too watery , plenty of clams and very flavorful . Linguini with clam sauce was the best I've ever had - generous portion lots of chopped clams and whole clams in the shell. The sauce was delicious although very garlicky so bring mints - my husband had roast chicken which he said was well seasoned and moist - a great meal, generous glass of Cabernet and a spectacular view all for $50 bucks - what could be better!

My wife and I hadn't been to Clancy's in several years because we had 2 terrible visits with poor service. My family made reservations for a 10 y.o. birthday party. We were seated promptly at a marsh view corner table. Service was excellent. The food surpassed my admittadly low expectations. The party all liked their meals and the portions were very good. Our server really stuck out as going above and beyond. He was wonderful. Above pub food but below true high end.

The halibut was a little dry. Most of the sea food was amazing. The steak was a little overdone, but overall great meal, great service and a wonderful for both kids and adults. Views are unsurpassed in this area!

We ate outside on the deck with a view of the river which was fantastic! The waitress was nice and attentive, and the food was great! We have been here before and always love it.

Other than the hostess being snooty, it was great! We had shrimp cocktail, fried oysters, broiled scallops, and linguini with clam sauce. Our Server Ryan (with a nice Polish last name) was great! Wouldn't you think they'd put happy people at front door. The party of 6 in front of me asked for a window and was immediately told nothing was available. Funny because a table opened up as were being seated.

Agree with Brett M. review. I am sure in season it can be crazy but this was our first time here - lunch in the off season. They were busy but no wait. Burger, grilled salmon and fish and chips. Salmon was $20 fixed menu which included chowder or soup, nice piece of fish with 2 sides and a dessert. Beer battered fish and chips were very good. Service was attentive and food was prompt. The winter view of Swan Pond was very relaxing. I am sure the deck is packed in the warm weather. Well worth the visit and will be back.

I'll tell yah, I am not sure what the bad reviews are for. On our way home from Provincetown we stopped in to grab two lobster rolls: one regular and one gluten free. Both sandwiches were over stuffed with fresh big chunks of lobster meat, lightly coated and not too soggy at all. Both sandwiches were also accompanied by French fries, which were cooked perfectly; they were crispy and golden on the outside and soft on the inside. Placing our order over the phone was easy and the lady at the host stand who gave us our food was friendly and courteous. After inquiring about their gluten free options she mentioned that the president of the company has celiac, so they offer a full-fledged gluten free menu. I found Clancy's on the findmeglutenfree app, which always seems to bring us to the coolest places. This was no exception! Food was a solid 4.5 stars; we took off half a star for the price. Two lobster rolls totaled out to $49. I mean....I get that lobster is expensive, and they certainly didn't skimp on the meat, but it just seemed about $5-$9 too high for a couple of sandwiches at lunchtime.

Great 1 1/4 lobster, seafood Alfredo was delicious, granddad got the Clancy burger. Everything was great!!! Also, clam chowder was superb!

I had lunch at Clancy's on the day of their remodel reopening and I was very pleasantly pleased. I've had issues with the old Clancy's during the past couple years as their food was horrid and service surly with a hostess who must have been a bill collector in the past...she was that mean! Well not with the new Clancy's! Both the wait staff and hostess were professional, pleasant...and smiling! My server, Matt, took excellent care of me. The food was excellent and everything ordered was superb, even the vegetables and dessert. I came here with some trepidation based upon past experiences but have now made Clancy's part of my regular local restaurant rotation.

Have gone here each summer for the past few years. The food has been good, and sitting outside in the evening is a nice option. Last night, we had a horrible experience, however. The hostess seemed disinterested in seating us, mumbling to follow her and just about rolled her eyes when we asked for a high chair. Once we were seated outside we were put in full sun. We politely asked if we could be moved to another table, since only 3 were taken out of about 20 tables currently set up, we didn't think it would be an issue. The waiter audibly sighed and said "let's go" annoyed that we asked to move one table over. I asked my wife it were just me feeling as if they seemed like they didn't want us there, and she was getting the exact same feeling. After the waiter left, we decided it was best to leave. We asked to speak with a manager, but one never showed up to speak with us. This place wasn't bad in previous years, but I suppose it greatly depends on who is working.

One of our go-to places when visiting the Cape. Not sure why the recent bad reviews. Went tonight with my wife and two boys and the food was solid and dependable, as usual. Steak tips were very good, as was the shrimp scampi. Also the potato skins. But it was the service that shined. The hostess could not be more friendly and accommodating. Hannah, our server was outstanding! She was very hard working and pleasant. She even remembered us from our visit one year ago when it was my older son's birthday. Highly recommend for a casual family meal!

Came here because I didn't feel like waiting 1hr+ at Gina's. From the outside and inside its a pretty nice place as far as physical location. I was there in October but there is a nice deck. Unlike Gina's this place wasn't that crowded. I picked up the menu and got nervous when I saw the prices on the specials. Luckily they have burgers and sandwiches and such that are more reasonable. Bottom line food was mediocre. I ordered chicken parm which I can only characterize as a mistake. She had a wrap that was somewhat better. Service was fine almost oddly fast. Too many better options in the area. 3 stars mostly because the location.

We come here a couple times every year. My BF and I stopped this evening for the first time this season and had a fabulous meal. We started with the killer mountain of onion rings (clearly fresh oil super light!) and we split the sirloin steak tip dinner which is my favorite item on the menu. Steak is tender enough to cut with a butter knife and portion was large enough for two women to split. Also had the house cab Sav with the beef. Very generous pour. **** shout out and hat tip to "Lery" our waiter. Pleasant and efficient without hovering! Spot on! Beautiful large deck if you are an outdoor dinner like us!

Wow, what a great evening. We're up on vacation from Florida and had the best meal of our trip. All three of us had something different and there wasn't a scrap to be had at the end. The service was also great, Matt took great care of us making sure to check in and even proactively asked if we wanted to move inside after other tables were commenting on gnats. Truly a great experience and highly recommend Clancy's and Matt to others.

I give Clancys one star because: 1. On entering with seniors they tried to seat us at a high table with lofty seats. 2. Then, wanting a regular table, we found a nice one with 8 seats; we had six folks. The restaurant was empty but even on asking the manager the would not seat us there. And this was done without any empathy... "Cannot do it""... "Just cannot do it". The table for 8 by the way was way too crowded for 8 anyway. We went elsewhere. We're not heading back too soon either.

This place is just ok. Nice water view from window. I ordered a shrimp taco, my shrimp were slice in half horizontally, so in one medium taco there were only 1 & half shrimp and the rest filled w/ lettuce and sauce. That was very cheap, for the price i paid for that meal! I would not go back to this place ! Very disappointing!

2 of our party of 5 had the cole slaw. 1 vomited shortly after exiting the restaurant and other vomited overnight. It's a shame because our server Melissa was awesome and our meals were tasty. Apparently the kitchen needs food safety training.

Service was terrible, the waitress was horrible hopefully only her 2nd night. Had to ask 2 twice for water and then had to ask another waiter to fill the water at the table. Only had one drink because I was never asked if I would like another. Then to top it off my meal was served to me incorrectly 3 times as well as being misrepresented on the menu. Thank god there are more restaurants in the area because I Will not be back!

Terrible customer service. A friend of mine had her very casual wedding rehearsal dinner here. She called well in advance telling the owner she wasn't sure if there would be 20 or 25 guests, but at least 20. When we arrived the owner or manager or whoever was in charge was miffed that we still didn't have a definite head count (we apologized over and over again) and was extremely rude. After that, we should've just left, but heck, we were hungry for good seafood -- which, unfortunately, wasn't what we got. The clam chowder was delicious, but simply too much batter on the fried foods. The waiter was fairly attentive, but the service was rather begrudging, and when I asked for more water when every water glass was empty, he only filled my glass. Poor form! I love Cape Cod and this was my first trip to Dennisport and while I'll definitely back, I won't be returning to Mean Clancy's.

I hadn't been to Clancy's in years but remember it as good food, albeit a bit pricy for the quality. Stopped by yesterday for a bite to eat at lunch. Since it was just me, I sat at the bar. Mistake number one was telling the bartender that I wasn't in a rush. Ten minutes later, my Sam Summer is served...in a glass with a crack in it. Nice apology and repour led to better results. The menu has a good balance of choice. I chose to start with a French Onion. After what seemed an eternity, my soup shows up. It was horrible. Way too salty and my bowl contained a long strand from the outside, inedible part of the onion. The Lobster BLT was my choice for the main event. Seriously, Lobster and Bacon??? You can't screw this up right? Wrong, my dreams of crispy, thick slices of applewood smoke were dashed when I raised the bun. To my horror, there were three wispy pieces of microwave bacon. I don't even allow the stuff in my house and have never seen it used in a $23 sandwich. Add to the disaster a greasy bun and an under ripe tomato and I'm left picking the lobster with my fork. This place has such great potential with it's location. Poorly executed dishes with inferior ingredients.

Didn't want to, but our real estate agent wanted to meet here the other night to chat, as we were looking at investment properties in the area. We were floored by the $11 price for a mixed drink (Cranberry Juice and Vodka), which consisted of mostly watered down juice, and very little alcohol. I don't even pay that when I travel to major cities and meet clients in upscale places. No one in the place (yes, it was mid-Winter, but this place used to be packed with locals even during the Winter months), and the Bartender was absent most of the time that we were there. When we asked to speak with a Manager regarding the price of the drinks, a woman appeared, who was beyond rude. She lacked customer service skills and acted like we were bothering her. Needless to say, the bill was not adjusted, so we paid, and left. Sadly enough, just another reason, that we no longer patronize this place. If only we could have the Clancy's of the past back! (For those that don't know, Guy Erickson owned Clancy's for close to 20 years along with his wife Martha. After Guy passed away in 2011, Martha decided to put Clancy's up for sale. In 2012, Clancy's was purchased by Cape Cod Restaurants Group, who also owns The Coonamessett Inn, Flying Bridge Restaurant and the Red Horse Inn, all in Falmouth, and Tugboats in Hyannis). How they stay in business, we're not sure. Must be the unknowing tourists during the Summer months. Long and short, we won't return nor recommend.

Ok the 2 stars is for the waitress, food gets 4 stars. She was horrible! The thing I hate the most and drives me right up the wall is watching other tables get seated after me, order before me and eat way before me. I won't even get into the bread basket, or lack thereof while clearly every table around us had theirs. They were out of 3 different drinks that were ordered. Won't return, won't recommend.

Lunch for 6 on New Year's eve day. Beautiful day on the water. 5 of us had really enjoyable lunches. Our 6 the person is on a very restricted diet do she opted for the Cob salad with shrimp & lobster for $21.00. She received 1 shrimp & no lobster. When she commented to the waiter he just dismissed her. We brought it to the attention of the manager & they took off $3.00. $18.00 for a salad is pretty expensive. The location is good & the food was good so I would return. However, I would not order the salad.

This place is GREAT during the summer! (Never been in the winter), but what did it for me was the view! I've kayaked down the swan river a few dozen times and always saw people sitting out on the deck overlooking the water eating so my fiance and I decided to go try it out. I got the french onion soup (perfect imo), and a turkey club with avocado on it. I liked it a lot. I'd recommend this place a dozen times over for the view, and say the food is about a 3.5 / 5

Food just ok. Service bad. Never asked if second cups of coffee or drinks were wanted. Saw other tables with bread never asked or offered by server. Veal parm was ground veal...didn't say veal "patty". Very disappointed. Won't be back.

Not what is used to be. I used to live on the Cape a few years ago and this was one of my favorite places to go. Last week I rented a cottage and ordered take out from Clancy's. I called in the food in and was told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. After I got there I still had to wait over a 1/2 hour for my food. When I got home I was disappointed with the portions. Seems like they increased there prices and cut way back on portions. The Hostess barley spoke English. Maybe Clancy's is under new ownership? This is not the Clancy's I remember.

Clancy's is a family destination joint - I had a birthday there as a child in a decade I daren't mention - and have experienced the highs and lows of the place over quite a long time. Clancy's is under new management (writing this in August 2012), and after a few years of fairly dismal experiences at this family-favorite joint, I'm happy to report it's back and better than ever. Our most recent family visit featured excellent food (lobster roll - three thumbs up; outstanding baked scallops; and the non-seafood loving adult had an extremely tasty burger). There are a couple of holdovers from the old regime on the service staff -- the good ones -- and the service was as good as we've ever had on the Cape. One of us had a very well-made martini. The only disclaimer to add is that you're paying Cape-in-season prices for everything, but Clancy's has plenty of company in overcharging, and I still see value in the quanity/quality per dollar expended ratio. Some things are higher priced due to market fluctuations - seafood on the Cape is in high demand in the summer - but there are still a few bargains on the menu. The Swan River location, of course, is one of the draws and is worth a star all by itself. We're giving this four stars right now, but with a "four plus plus" for our most recent visit.

HIGH prices, LOW quality I have eaten at Clancy's for over a decade and it was consistently good food at good prices. However it changed hands several years ago and prices have doubled while quality and service have tanked. I usually only go for a drink and a cup of chowder - the chowder is still very good - but ordered a burger, medium, this visit. The burger was raw in the middle so I sent it back. After another 15 minutes I was served a burger that was not raw, but extremely pink - i.e. not medium. The waitperson noticed my surprise and sent over the manager, who told me that's how a medium burger is cooked - wrong. Either she's an idiot or thinks her customers are idiots - or both - because "medium" burgers are not pink and fleshy. Bottom line, any cook who can't cook a burger to order has no business making $30 meals and management has no business charging those prices. Clancy's is dissing the locals who made the business and scamming tourists. Eat there if you want to be ripped off - I'll go to an actual restaurant like Buca's.

Food good staff is sketchy and unfriendly. I mean managerial staff not waitress. A manager delivered my salad and she was eating something ...hope it wasn't from my dish! Who is the guy in the dirty pants with suspenders? Owners you need to upgrade.

Went to Clancy's last night to have a nice relaxing dinner with my parents and left feeling ripped off and annoyed. The service was fine but the food was awful and the management was rude. I was looking forward to a plate of baked stuffed lobster with shrimp. I ate the three shrimp first and then dug into the lobster. It was dry, stringy , overcooked and seemed far from fresh so I asked our waitress to bring it back. She asked me why and I told her.She queried if I wanted something else and I said "no" because I wanted to pick from my mom's plate of linguine with clam sauce. That was disappointing as well. I do live in Brookline where there are plenty of great restaurants outside my door. However, there should be a way to serve simple food to a crowd without leaving sand in the clams!I did not want to leave on a sour note so when my parents encouraged me to have dessert, I said yes. My father ordered cheesecake which we shared and my mom ordered strawberry shortcake. The shortcake was fine but the cheesecake tasted like something Sarah Lee would have thrown out while cleaning out the freezer. Cafeteria food! When the bill came the lobster plate was on the bill. When we asked our waitress about it she brought a manager over who stooped over, so that only her face was showing above the table and said that three managers had looked at the plate which was brought back to the kitchen and they decided I had eaten ALL of the seafood so they charged my father $28 for the three shrimp I had eated. I replied, "No, I did not". But she just walked away. My father said this is the second time he has been overcharged at this place. When we left, none of the waitstaff would look us in the eye. They knew.

came here during our stay at the cape. it was very busy and noisy inside. we were told it could be a 30 minute wait but we stayed and was very surprised that we were accommodated much sooner than expected. our server was paula, paulina, or something to that effect and we all could barely understand how she spoke the english language. she was the reason why i took a star off my review and i'll get to that that in a bit. the food was actually good, the ceaser salad was very very fresh. so fresh that when my wife had a bite of mine, she wanted her own, hence my wife is 8+ months pregnant and has the appetite of a starving refugee. well paula had an attitude when we asked for another salad b/c she has just put in our dinner order. she walked away shaking her head rolling her eyes and mouthing some words to herself. like she was going to go in the kitchen and make the "premade" ceaser salad all by herself from scratch, poor paula... when she returned with the salad it was very awkward and even though they bronx boy in me wanted to call her out on her attitude and put her in her place, i had to remember that these are the people handling my food, and eating dinner with a big "loogie" in it from a pissed of server is not cool... anyways, back to the food. my wife and family had the chicken piccata which was very good. the baked stuffed sole was said to be delicious and i had the seafood alfedo which i sub'd out the "fish" for and got bigger portions of the scallops, shrimp and lobster. it was very very good... in all we had a very good dinner food wise for the exception of paula who almost ruined the experience with her attitude. i paid cash and her tip on a very big check was a reflection of the crappy service we had from her. would i come back here again? yes i would b/c the food was good and i won't let someone one who was having a bad day keep me from a decent meal so i'll give it another shot when we come back to the cape.i just hope this establishment realizes that good service is part of a business's rep. let's see what happens next time...........................

Extremely disappointing. This used to be a favorite of ours, but it has gone way downhill. I got the chicken Kari Anne, which I always get, and it was blander than usual. My husband got chicken parm and it was cold. It took the 20 minutes to get me a glass of wine, it came out after our food! The waiters all looked like little punks hanging around talking. One said to my husband as he walked by "what the dilly sir?" Insane! And I saw our waitress roll her eyes at another table when a customer asked her a question. I'm sad to say that we will not be going back.

We had a good meal at Clancy's - after much debate as to where to go. My 6 year old enjoyed the fried mozzarella sticks app. The "typical" Cape Cod menu is well executed and our server, Rob was attentive and friendly. I especially enjoyed the Caprese Salad (delicious, sweet balsamic over red, ripe summer tomatoes) for $9.99. My mother in law had the classic (white sauce) linguine with clams sauce and it was very good. My father in law's chili? Not so great. Loaded with about a lb of sauteed onions on top. Seriously, who eats THAt many onions? In summer, the outdoor deck overlooking the marsh is nice. Not cheap - and a tourist trap for sure - but worth a trip. We visit Dennis each year in September - after Labor Day (and after the crowds are gone). Would I wait in a long line for Clancy's? No way!

I've been going to Clancy's for years, and have noticed a huge decline my past few visits. My most recent visit was for takeout which I tend to do during the busy season so understand something's aren't going to be as good when ordered to go - that being said I historically have ordered a cup of chowder and the Cobb salad without a complaint. Until now. The chowder was too creamy, lots of potatoes hardly any clams. What gives? Used to be so good! The $20+ Cobb salad was awful! The lobster used to be solid chunks (not shredded for lobster salad,) one single jumbo shrimp was good but thought maybe there would be another hidden in there, the chicken....tasted like prepackaged Perdue overly seasoned to boot. My favorite part was the pile of red onions & sliced tomatoes both of which belonged on top of a burger. I removed both thinking I could still try to enjoy this overly priced not too promising salad... Unfortunately the blue cheese dressing that used to be homemade, now I believe comes out of a tub of Kraft dressing was the icing on the cake. MEH. The rolls included were pretty good so at least I had one good item. I would love to give another chance but have a feeling I'll be wasting my money & expectations. I miss what Clancy's used to be! :(

Clancy's is one of my favorite spots. Good food that is decently priced and great service. They have a great $20 dinner deal that includes soup or salad, an entree, and dessert. The mussels appetizer is delicious!

Very disappointing - we use to look forward to visiting Clancy's - not anymore. Went on 8/5/1012. Food was bland and boring. Won't go back - shame on the new management. You shouldn't have changed what was so good!

No Thanks! Stopped in for a glass of wine and an appetizer. The app was not hot and the wine was super expensive (for KJ) - $32 for potato skins and 2 glasses of wine. Bartender never stopped by to ask if everything is ok. I'd pass on this place.

I've been coming to Clancy's literally since I was a baby. Now, more than two decades later, I am still caught up in a love affair/heavy obsession with it. While the food can be a bit pricey, most of it is worth the cost - ESPECIALLY the clam chowder. When we came last year, my boyfriend fell in love with it so much that we went back the last day of our trip to pick up a few pints to bring back home with us. You should absolutely do the same :)

The food here is great for all ages and there is something for everyone. The scenic view outside is awesome but they're can be long waits and the waiters' service can be spotty.

Came at peak dinner hour without a reservation with 6 people and were fortunate enough to get a table within 30 minutes. If you like clam chowder very thick, then this is the place for you! Some of the heartiest chowder I've had in a few years. Really delicious. As my entrée I ordered the Veal Oscar. Lightly breaded veal topped with a layer of asparagus then lobster tail meat and topped off with a very creamy bearnese sauce. Absolutely amazing, very filling and even more satisfied.

I don't typically write reviews unless I have a really good experience, or in this case, a really bad one. We were in town for a wedding and had dinner here. From the outside, it looked great, and I was really looking forward to a nice meal here. Sadly, the service and food quality was severely lacking. When we came in the hostess was very short with us. They were somewhat busy, but nothing to warrant that. Besides, I have been to plenty of really busy restaurants where the host or hostess is friendly regardless. Our waiter seemed okay at first, but once we started ordering I was getting a pretty lousy feeling from him; feeling rushed and like we were putting him out. My friend asked a simple question about a couple of their wines and it was like she was asking him to do her this huge favor. It was difficult to flag our waiter down for simple things. At one point all of our water glasses were empty. He never offered to refill them; we had to ask him, and then it was this huge inconvenience. Same with our after dinner coffee - one small cup, and that was it. The coffee wasn't great so I guess that wasn't the end of the world that we only had one cup. The food was pretty flavorless - the descriptions on the menu looked good but nobody at our table was very impressed with their meals. Between all of us we ordered a variety of dishes - fried seafood, baked fish, non-seafood entrees. We all sortof realized at one point that nobody was really enjoying their food or the service. Once we had paid our bill and the tip, the waiter did not check on us again. When we left I attempted to say thank you to him and he didn't look up or acknowledge us, nor did the hostess on our way out. I think if either the service or the food were actually good, I might not have left that place with such a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). But both were just really lousy. Fortunately we all love each other's company, so we still made the most of the evening. But if I am ever in that area again I will steer clear of that restaurant, and will not recommend it to anyone. Though that might not be an issue; if it continues to be run the way it was the night we were there, I don't see them staying in business for long. It's sad because it seems like such a perfect place with so much potential. It could be a really great restaurant if they changed their way of doing things.

The service was very slow and when our server was dropping off our change he had a basket of bread for the table next to us that just sat down. When my great aunt asked why we didn't get any bread, he said, with a very snippy attitude, "you didn't order any bread. If you had, I would have brought it over in a snap!" No apologies or anything, just attitude. The food was bland at best. It was a very unsatisfying meal. I always tip well. I already had $30 out to tip him on $120 and his attitude made me take $12 back. I will never come back!

I used to love Clancy's. My husband and I went there sometimes 2-3 times a weekend visit. The French Onion soup was amazing. The service was excellent. The prices were fair. The cod was amazing. The worst thing about it was the consistent 45 min wait whether it be Feb. or Aug. Went for the first time since the new ownership and what a disappointment, except there was no wait! I wrote an email to the new owner and got the most unfriendly non-customer centric pompous email back. I mentioned that their prices were reaching Legal Seafood prices and wrote back saying of course they were they buy the same high quality fish. Our waiter even encouraged us to email because he said he was getting an earful from the customers and the management needed to hear it directly from us, the now overpaying customers. Well, with the email I received I'm done. I've already scoped out 4-5 other family owned restaurants in the area that I'll be testing out. I went to Hart farm today at lunch time. Clancy's is usually packed mid day, guess word traveled fast. They'll do doubt pull in plenty of tourists with the view and pseudo New England fare, but the year rounders that frequented that place day after day will stop going.

Two friends and I went to Clancy's to celebrate a birthday. We had not been there for some time, but remembered it as being excellent. It is now under different management, and was a great disappointment. We each had a cocktail, which were good. However, the food was absolutely terrible. I had some kind of tenderloin something or other, (which looked great on the menu) but it was so tough I couldn't cut it, much less chew it. My potatoes and vegetables were cold. One friend had sole which she said was not good. The other friend had salmon which she said was o.k..... Not a rave in the group, obviously. The waitress was friendly, and did her best. We will not go back to this restaurant, and will not recommend it.

They just changed ownership this summer and the craigslist crowd immediatley began slamming how awful it was and how soon it would go under etc.... While its true many of the staff have gone, I have been there 5 times since the change and have found the food to be the same. Granted I usuallu get pub fare like sandwiches.burgers etc.... but its always good. They have a great angus burger, always cooked the way you want (med rare in my case), my bud got a primerib sandwich on a baguette yesterday and he loved it. The newer help is going through a small learning curve, but everything else is the same to me.

great bar. free popcorn while waiting. and there is always a wait. basic food, nothing crazy or unique. solid place to go to for a quality meal when you can't decide on where to go. been here a ton of times and it's always reliable and consistently good.

I've been quite a few times since the ownership changes, sending people, urging them to give the new Clancy's a chance, but last night, I was shown exactly why so many people aren't going anymore. We sat at the bar, which used to be the prime spot for a quick bite...not anymore! My first drink, a dark and stormy, came with almost no rum in it, but the bartenders were too busy to even get their attention to solve that problem. They were out of glasses, running out of ice, filling water and soda orders for waitstaff (do we not trust waitstaff with the soda gun?). The Clancy's bartenders of old are gone and these are struggling to handle the Friday night rush, so much so, in fact, that the entire time we were there we noted major health violations. YOU NEVER PLUNGE GLASSWARE INTO YOU ICE!!! In case you don't know, glass can chip, crack, or break, and someone can end up with a shard of glass in their drink. This is a health issue, a safety issue and a basic bar service issue. I stopped drinking when I noticed this and the other glaring thing....putting containers of drink mixes in your ice to keep them handy and cool also contaminates the ice ending up in my drink, especially when your hands are all over that container all night. I was actually warned recently about how they're faring health-code wise. Sad. Really sad because I love their gluten free menu. Until last night when I had undercooked chowder with raw potatoes, undercooked French fries, but, they did manage to give me a well-done burger on a medium rare order! Off season, this place was awesome (and why they're getting the two stars). Summer, they have yet to get their legs and have scared me into not returning. What is it this year and the great, reliable places down here? They're not making tiny missteps, they're falling over and killing themselves and it makes me so sad for them. Another great place, just slinging food for the masses instead of taking pride in their food and maintaining their reputation. Trust me, we weren't the only ones who were at the bar last night who weren't coming back, definitely not this summer, jury's out on if we ever do.

We went here on our honeymoon with high hopes as our parents who vacation here recommend it. The food was very good but the service was very lacking. First they were out of the crab cakes then they did not bring us our shrimp cocktail appetizer. Our drinks took 30 min and we never got bread. We barely saw our waiter the whole time. When the main course did come it was excellent. And they dessert was good too. However disappointment again when we ordered cappachinos and they said the machine was broken. Not sure if I would go back here again.

Went at 6:30 on a Wednesday and only waited about a half hour not to bad for the Cape in July. The waiter was very friendly and the food was all very good and served promptly. We've been to Clancy's in the past and will be sure to go again in the future.

My friend works here and honestly most of you sound like annoying jerks. Cape cod is extremely busy in the summer, clancys DOESN'T take reservations. If you expect anything other than a long wait you are simply just kidding yourself. Expect to wait. If you are starving go home and fire up the grill. Stop b!tching. Cape Cod and clancys are popular, stop acting so entitled. Also, this is a family eatery so there are kids and its gets loud, so don't come thinking it'll be quiet calm and fancy dancy. I've been a few times, the food is okay. Not incredible, but its got alot of selection for the kids and they will be happy. My kids really enjoy it here, and that makes it a great time! It has a beautiful view and is right by water and the marsh. As for the service its depends on the day and who you get. All I know is my friend is a joy and wants you to have a good time.

    1) Clancy's had a nice atmosphere and very clean dining room with great view of the river. 2) The glasses of wine were very large (my husband and I could have shared one glass) 3) the teriyaki boneless chicken wings were very tasty but were not crisp as they were sitting in the sauce. 4) The linguini in clam sauce was disappointing...the clams were rubbery and the noodles tasted like wet bland-tasting noodles. 5) The Clam chowder was DELICIOUS! The best we have had yet. 6) The Caprisi salad was a nice side dish - very tasty. 7) Lastly, the Boston Cream Bomb was a nice ending. Not too large but perfect to share the whole thing. When we asked about a small dessert, the waitress said that they have the Boston Cream Bomb on the special menu (we did not hear the specials prior to ordering dinner). It was a good choice though. We will be returning to Clancy's to try other things on the menu.

My wine was good. My food was nice and hot, which I need, but my husbands fries were not quite hot enough. He thought because of the hours listed on the menu that the turkey would be in house roasted and sliced. It was deli counter. My piece of fish was nice, but why the slice of bright yellow cheese. The service was lovely. The view real Cape Cod. The decor is nice/

Was visiting a friend in the cape for a few days. Ended up going here both nights I stayed over. They have great food and friendly service at a good price. It is appropriate for families, friends, and groups. Lots of tables including a patio out back with seating.

I would definitely not go here again. This meal was a HUGE disappointment. The view from the porch was very nice but the food was bad and way overpriced. We went here because we were passing through and the place had a good review in Frommer's book. We didn't have time to check out the reviews online - big mistake. Everything we had was totally bland! *Onion rings - bland *French fries - bland *Fish and chips - bland *Bacon Cheese Burger - was just OK *BLT - I asked for well-done bacon and it was not; I asked for light mayo and I got no mayo *Lobster roll - bland, what a rip off for $23 dollars!

My wife and I went to Clancy's for an early dinner around 4:00 p.m.. It has been a favorite place for us to go have a drink and a good meal. We sat outside which was very nice. It appears ownership has changed recently so there was a new menu. We began by sharing an order of Potatoe Skins. They were ok but not much flavor. My wife had the shrimp scampi which was more buttery than garlic tasting. I had a Shrimp and Chicken Gumbo which was the blandest and least appealing gumbo I have ever had. There was very little Anouille sausage. The menu stated that it would be topped with two Jumbo shrimp, however, my order only had one. There was plenty of wait staff around but service was not great. I don't see us returning anytime soon which is unfortunate since this was always a favorite of ours especially during the off-season.

So enjoyed my dinner tonight. Ordered a salad. Nothing fancy but it was quite tasty. The rolls were awesome! For my entree, I ordered the Asian Stirfry. So delicious. It was so full of scallops, shrimp and chicken! Tons of meat!! My husband had broiled scallops. Cooked to perfection. Scallops were quite large. Dessert was soooo yummy. Strawberry shortcake! Oh my god. I 'm craving another one right now. I'd go back just for the dessert. Loved my visit. Would go back..Get there early, it fills up fast!

A year has passed since my last visit to Clancy's in Dennisport on Cape Cod. Last summer I was thoroughly disappointed with my meal and the wait staff. I came back this week and ordered the same thing as last summer (fried oyster platter). This time the oysters were not overlooked or oily. Instead they were golden brown, sweet and tender. The French fries were plentiful and tasty, as was the cole slaw, though my attention was riveted on the oysters. Unlike last summer's waitress, our waitress this time was pleasant and efficient and managed the check expertly--two credit cards, a party of ten, and an uneven split on the charges. No balk, no hassle, and charmingly handled. During dinner I observed a different waitress preparing a leftover package for another table. I was impressed by the care she took with what she was doing. I complimented her on this when she passed by our table. I'll come back again soon--and I've already forgotten the bad taste in my mouth from last summer. Keep up the good work.

Clancy's features good food heavy on the seafood/beef dishes with generous portions and low prices. I hear it's got a nice view, but I've only been there at night. Two visits, two total failures. My first visit was in the early autumn. We waited an hour or so. The bar was full so there is no place to wait. I found myself leaning up against walls and trying to stay out of the way of guests and staff. No fun. My second visit was New Years Eve. On this night, they had reservations (they usually do not). Despite those reservations, we waited 30 minutes or so past our reservation time for our table. Again, more wall leaning and dodging people. But what totally ruined the experience was a loud live band that prohibited any conversation. Clancy's is now on my "never go back" list.

Went early (5:30) for dinner and there was no wait for our group of 7. Service was great, food was mostly really good. I had the seafood sampler which was excellent- rich and buttery. Another member of our group said the pork chops were really, really good. Kids meals were disappointing, Mac and cheese looked like Kraft out of the box and $10 for 3 chicken fingers is high for a kids menu. Most disappointing to me was the clam chowder. I've had many while on the cape and this was my least favorite. Tasted no different than one out of a can at the grocery store. Watery and really tough clams. Too bad, because the rest of our food was good. Atmosphere and Ambiance are great, food came out fast, and waiter was attentive.

Went here for the 1st time in years the other night. Was worried because reviews were mixed, but we had a great meal. Steak tips, salmon and seafood Alfredo were all great - big chunks of lobster, fish, scallops and colossal shrimp in the seafood Alfredo. Beef tenderloin medallion special a bit on the skimpy side, but tasted great. Drinks were good and service was attentive and helpful. Not like it used to be years ago, but not as bad an experience for us as others have reviewed.

Longtime patron of Clancy's, and I am disappointed. Service has gone downhill. We were rushed through our appetizers and meals. My daughter wanted the pasta with butter for kids, but we were told the pasta could only be penne, despite the wide variety of pastas on the menu. This was never a problem before. My oysters on the half arrived without condiments. Our waiter asked me if I wanted them, and then disappeared for 10 minutes. When he came back, still no cocktail. Lots of pieces of shell in the oysters, too. Aside from that, the food was good. I just wish the service was better. Might try them again in the future. In the meantime, someone needs to give the wait staff some training.

I have been to Clancy's twice about two years apart. I actually completely forgot about my first visit (or suppressed the memory of it) until I saw the menu and all the lame dishes listed. I have no idea how people give this place 5/4 stars. I think Jessica P. summed it up in a single word "disgusting". I could add a few more words; menu is quite "unimaginative", food is greasy and tasteless. There are plenty of other options around, just stay away from Clancy's and thank me by rating this review ;-) Enjoy your stay in Cape Code. Cheers!

How can you mess up fried seafood like in a typical fishermans platter? Ask the people at Clancys. Although really it was a French fry platter w seafood garnish, that's how little of it there was. Waiter was nice but service was slow. When platter was brought out, cocktail sauce splashed out from its little container and food was sitting in a pool of condiment sauce. Just overall bad service, presentation and food. Not worth the price, location or view.

As a wee lassie I had been coming to Clancy's for years with mom, dad and the grandparents, now all grown up and going with my boyfriend, going to Clancy's is one more thing I can add to the list of, "What the Hell Were My Parents Thinking?" (1) The menu: boring and uninventive (2) The service: unprofessional (3) The food: everything is either fried or loaded with butter and nothing is made with passion and love. Not to sound like a snot...but..... can we say seasonal line cook??? Okay, I do have to say, they have some of the best buffalo wings around, you can't beat the outdoor seating and the chocolate mint hard candies on the exit, but why can't these things be accompanied by the necessities : GOOD FOOD & GOOD SERVICE???? I rest my case, not worth the money unless you're like my grandmother and want a "Good glass of wine".

Loved this place!!!! We had driven by several times, never thought about stopping until we had a recommendation from a family member. It is a really cute restaurant with a fantastic outdoor deck - your view is of a very quiet, peaceful marsh (sounds boring, but during/after sunset it was lovely). We both ordered the Clancys Cod, to say it was out of this world would be an understatement. It is kid friendly, the waitstaff were great, and the pricing is quite reasonable for the quality of the food. Two big thumbs up!

  • Russ M.

Not so good. They forgot us after they gave us the electronic flasher. By that time it was getting chilly on the deck. Other tables got bread & butter, but we didn't. Adjoining table received their food but no utensils. Food was presented well, but steak tips were stringy. My wife & I won't be going back.

Have been going to Clancy's for many years and this year did not disapoint. Prices are reasonable. The view is exceptional on the deck! I went with 6 others and they were able to accomodate within a short period of time. The French Onion Soup is the BEST!

Clancy's is always on our list during our Cape vacation. Stopped in around 9:00, since you either have to go there real early or late - if you don't want to wait for an hour. Everything was great as always. Great clam chowder for openers - also shared the fried clams for an appetizer, which were truly awesome. Dinner entrees included - fisherman's platter, seafood alfredo, stuffed sole and grilled swordfish. My goal is to try every fisherman's platter on the Cape and rate them all... Clancy's is always one of the best and didn't disappoint. I love the sweet potato fries that they added last year - awesome. All of us loved our meals and the service was very good. We'll be back again next year!!

Poor service, nice view, mediocre food is what characterizes Clancy's. I can only think that the crowds that this place draws is due to its location, smack in the middle of Cape Cod. All those vacationers need a place to eat, and it looks like they all come to Clancy's. We arrived around 1:30PM on a Sunday, and were greeted and shown to our table right away by the beaming hostess. Our server was less genial, and we waited and waited for our beverages. After we ordered our food, we waited and waited again, and were rewarded with a Caesar salad (served warm), corned beef hash with absolutely no seasonings and a Cobb salad that looked like none other I've ever seen before. It had a chicken breast placed on top, along with five slices (!) of bacon, a wedge of blue cheese, and one whole hard boiled egg. Ummmm - it's too difficult to compose a freaking salad? This looked like amateur hour - and cost $18! Do yourself a favor and go to the Kream n' Kone instead for some fried seafood. Or Subways.

We went here three times in one week... as a result of staying with a former employee. My review may be skewed, because the staff and management went out of their way to welcome us. But, the food speaks for itself. It was a smörgsbord of fried deliciousness: the boneless wings, both regular and teriyaki, the onion rings (oh my God I'm still craving them), the enormous fried shrimp. Fries were mediocre. The lobster roll was delicious, but it lacked the larger chunks of lobster I've seen in other versions. I'm told the hot lobster rolls is just chunks of lobster meat and butter... mmmm. The beers are cheap, the big screens plentiful, and they were even friendly to me while I was wearing my Yankee cap during the 20-11 rout of the Sox. Would definitely return.

Waited about 20-30 min. on a Tuesday night in July, apparently typical of most restaurants in the Harwichport/Dennisport area. We weren't told there was one list for outside tables and another list for inside. Our server was inattentive and disinterested; for example it took a long time to get water refills. The food was tasty, but our daughter's burger (ordered medium-well) was basically raw in the center. Very nice view from the outdoor deck. OK-not-great place from our occasional visitor's perspective.

Clancy's is disgusting. Last time I went there it was our second try. The menu is majorly lame. The service is alright. The food is bogus. I almost gave 2 stars because the service is very nice, but honestly, bogus. Clancy's bothers me because it's one of those places that subsists simply because of where it is and a lack of a lot of viable options nearby. Both times we ate here we felt sick afterwards. And it's pretty hard to screw up a turkey club that hardcore.

Went to Clancys last nite with friends, it had been better than a year that we all had been there together. Under new mgmt we were told by our server. Our waitress was great and attentive during the whole time we were there. We all ordered from the dinner specials which seemed like a great deal. Soup or Salad, entree and desert for $20. Unfortunately after the salads which were great crisp and lost of different veggies. The entree was a major disappointment, I ordered the tenderloin medallions which were tiny( each well under the size of a half dollar and about an inch thick), tough and grainy, seemed more like sirloin and were kinda blah in flavor at coupled with instant potato mixed with probably 20 % real, needless to say not good. Friends had shrimp scampi which they each said was mediocre. We all had the apple pie for desert which was good. We all agreed that this would be the last time we went there as there are many other better choices around.

I've been to Clancy's so many times that I've lost count. It seemed to be the only restaurant on the Cape for a while. This seems especially true when you see the line to get in. Be prepared to wait 1-2 hrs unless you come during the off season. The menu is very diverse which is good if you have people that don't eat seafood. Most restaurants on the Cape specialize in seafood so those poor people are forgotten about. They have sandwiches - Reuben, Chicken Parm, bugers, etc, they have steak tips, salads, and of course, seafood. I like their baked suffed sole, seafood alfredo, and the clam chowder.

Reliably good food and service and great views are the big draws here. The menu is also large enough that chances are good you'll find something you want, so you can get more than the typical Cape Cod stuff. Nothing too exciting though. Definitely not worth a long wait..

We go to Clancy's fairly often. The food is decent not great and while I have never been disappointed in the food I have never been wowed either. It is in a good location where it overlooks the swan river and service is always pretty good. It is a good place to bring kids as it is not quiet and there are good options for them on the menu. We will continue to go there.

I was very dissapointed with the service. Our waiter had no personality and food wasn't cooked enough. Also, they should put some film on their windows so that people are not blinded by the sun. We asked our waiter if the shades could be lowered and he said no due to wind. I wanted good seafood whileon the Cape and got better at Seafood Sams or at a take out place. Will be dropping Clancys from our favorite list.

Clancy's was great. Maureen who took my too go order was helpful and even brought my food out to me all bagged up while I waited out on the deck! There are two bar areas and the bar is typically hopping! The deck is nice...tho can be a bit buggy in the summer evenings (use bug spray). The views are great from the restaurant windows or deck... - out at the marshy area. .Great Sunsets from the deck. I had the Fisherman's platter! Well worth it. Huge Shrimp! Scollaps, Haddock (Fried) and came with french fries. - also clam strips. Was vvery good and even tasted good and fresh when I reached Boston 3 hours later and ate them at the Dock on New England Aquarium by the Chart house/Boston Harbor Cruises, after sitting in traffic on route 3 for 2 hours. and getting lost in Quincy...after diverting up 53 north - 228 north to 3A....(thanks stupid 3A Detour.)( I swear Boston's the only place where you can get in a 2 hour traffic jam on Sunday evening at 9pm) .
